For Employers

About Our Evaluations

We understand that your business relies on employees showing up to work. The DOT-SAP process is necessary for the public's safety, and leaves you a driver short.

We also understand that the DOT-SAP process can seem arbitrary. Pick a DOT-SAP, and you have to go with their recommendations. What if we disagree or they made a poor recommendation?

Our process is designed to get drivers back to work ASAP while following national standards.

Same-week appointment availability

Multiple objective tests and screens are used - no guess work!
--For a complete list, please email us at National standards for recommended treatment recommendations are followed

Results are provided within 2 business days from the screens being completed, often the same day

Comprehensive Services Include:

Over 10 years D&A experience

Same week initial evaluation availability

Standardized treatment recommendations

Timely coordination with treatment provider, driver, and DER to get you back to work ASAP

Coordination with the DER can be after every scheduled appointment, after completion of the evaluations, or somewhere in between

Quick follow-up evaluation scheduling, often same week treatment is completed

Return to work notification and aftercare recommendations same day as follow up evaluation

To schedule, please use the form here, email us at dotsap@magillcounseling.com, or call us at either: 844-690-2247, or 717-219-5711.

DOT-SAP Process

  1. Driver is tested for alcohol and or drugs
  2. Results are sent to a Medical Review Officer (MRO) to review
  3. Driver can present information to MRO regarding medications, etc.
  4. If there is no medical reason for the positive result, the MRO finds the results "positive"
  5. DER must provide list of DOT-SAP assessors to conduct evaluation (this list may be managed by a third party)
  6. Driver must schedule an initial evaualtion with the DOT-SAP assessor (either the driver or the employer will pay for this)
  7. Driver must designate the DOT-SAP as his evaluator in the clearinghouse
  8. DOT-SAP assessor provides assessment, and results are given to the DER and driver
  9. DOT-SAP updates the clearinghouse with the date of the evaluation
  10. Driver must complete recommended education or treatment
  11. After completing the recommended education or treatment the driver schedules a follow up evaluation with the same DOT-SAP
  12. If treatment was successful, the DOT-SAP updates the clearing house, and provides a letter to the DER with follow up recommendations, driver can start the return to work process
  13. Driver completes return to work process
  14. Employer monitors driver per the aftercare plan

DER - Designated Employe Representitive
MRO - A physician with specific qualifications to review the test results and evaluate if the test is a valid positive
